Andrew is founder and Principal of Sutherland Education. The Sutherland’s have provided educational guardianship services for over 50 years. Alongside his senior roles in schools of Deputy Head, Senior Master, and Senior Housemaster i/c boarding, Andrew has worked continuously in guardianship since his Mother founded the UK’s first guardianship association in 1965 (the Kith and Kind Association).
He pioneered the current guardianship sector by starting Sutherland Education in 1990. His commitment to the safeguarding, wellbeing, personal development and academic success of all his students, spurred him to initiate the foundation of AEGIS, bringing together a group of co-founders which led to its launch in the House of Lords in 1997. He has wide experience in education both in the UK and overseas at a senior management level and has been invited to give seminars and appear as a guest speaker both in the UK and as far afield as China.
He is currently the Chair of Governors at Claremont Fan Court School in Esher (950 pupils from 3 to 18 years) For his roles and work.
